I'm pleased to announce that I've been invited to give a lecture and host a workshop at the International Academy of Design and Technology in San Antonio.
It's good to see a graphic design program devoting valuable time and resources to the importance of writing in the communications process. As communicators, it's our responsibility to convey messages as clearly and directly as possible — using both words and images. But too often, visual people get intimidated by writing and/or overly infatuated with imagery. The resulting work may be beautiful, but it can ultimately fail to connect with its intended audience.
So, what's a visual thinker to do? In the "Write More Good" lecture and workshop, participants will discover simple tips for brainstorming and solving communication problems with headlines and copy — including a "formula" that will help even the most verbally challenged design student write his or her way out of a wet paper bag.
Stay tuned to this blog for updates. And if you're planning to attend and participate, please feel free to contact me with any questions about the material or the curriculum.
Many thanks to the Graphic Arts Club (GAC) of San Antonio for co-sponsoring the event with IADT.
Nice! Do you ever hold workshops in Austin? :)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the importance of graphic design and writing working together, I caught a screening of a documentary called Art & Copy a couple of months ago. Have you heard of it? http://www.artandcopyfilm.com/
